Google hinted at next for Chrome OS, in a blog post commemorating the 10th anniversary of Chromebooks, in the early phase of 201.

Google is developing a “Human Presence Sensor” (HPS) for forthcoming Chromebooks, which may be utilized for face unlock or other Chrome OS features that have been long overdue.

It promises to use acesensor technology for more customized experiences,” according to 9To5Google.

While a lot of work has gone into making this human presence sensor operate on a hardware level over the previous few months, there’s only been one hint as to what Chrome OS will do with it so far. An eye-shaped symbol will appear on the system tray if a Chromebook has an HPS, according to the study.

While the functionality is still in beta, the icon is currently static, but depending on whether Chrome OS can detect your presence, it’s possible that it will change.

The human presence sensor is being developed by Google in partnership with Antmicro, a “software-driven tech startup building open and contemporary industrial edge, and cloud Al systems.”

Antmicro appears to be figuring out how to deal with sensor technology using open-source software wherever feasible, according to the study.

Google and Antmicro had previously partnered on the Coral AI developer board, as well as other initiatives since both firms are Platinum Founding Members of the RISC-V Foundation.
