Day by day cases regarding data theft using malware are rising rapidly in the country. Still after passing months people did not recover well from the Pegasus malware attack but despite this, the news of another malware attack has come to the fore named Drinik. Following this concern, CERT-In has warned regarding the malware.

Hackers have leveraged this malware to obtain the confidential details of Android users. Over 27 public and private sector banks have become the victims of this malware attack.

Cert-in found that hackers are employing phishing tricks to access your confidential data including your name, PAN, Aadhaar number, address, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID.

It has also advised you to beware of any SMS regarding income tax refund as such text messages are sent to you with a malicious link tapping on which can cause you trouble. A person receiving such SMS cannot recognize the difference between a fake message and a real one as the format of such messages are very much identical to the official Income Tax message format.

Apart from this, the hackers can also steal your financial details including your bank account, ifsc code, debit/credit card pin, etc. using this malware. Following the ongoing concern recently CERT-IN issued a statement in which it said that “Using such data, the hacker will create a banking form and sends it to the user’s device where the users are urged to input their mobile banking details.

How to avoid being a victim of any malware or virus?

1. According to Cert-in to stay protected against harmful malware or virus always install the application from the Google Play Store or App Store as these app stores mostly feature legitimate applications.

2. Delete the messages containing malicious links and do not ever open the malicious link present inside the SMS.
