Twitter is a social media platform with a wide range of businesses carrying out the B2B marketing strategy over there. According to recent data, 75% of B2B marketing takes place through the Twitter handle. With such vast information available on the platform, a small breach also would lead to hazardous results.

The Data Breach

Twitter in mid may 2020 reported that a data breach occurred because of a bug in the platform. Twitter has claimed to have repaired the vulnerability which could be exploited by the hackers to get sensitive business information and gain access to the user’s twitter handles.

Twitter apologized to its clients through a written email informing them about the breach. In the email sent by twitter, it was mentioned that “We’re very sorry this happened. We recognize and appreciate the trust you place in us, and are committed to earning that trust every day.”

They think that some of the data might have been leaked which includes email address, contact number, and last 4 digits of a credit card. According to sources, the attack affected the businesses using twitter’s analytics and advertising platforms to carry out B2B marketing. Twitter came to know about the breach of the information on May 20, 2020.

Past threats on twitter

Twitter has been quite a favorite platform for hackers and has been attacked quite some time in the past. These were mostly to attain the confidential data from the databases. Some of the past incidents with twitter were:

In June 2020 when twitter and many other services suffered a DDoS attack. Firefox catch was discovered in April 2020 that stored sensitive information which included information related to DMs and downloaded data archives. Similarly in March 2020 elastic server claimed to have exposed the database of twitter.

Conclusion:

Twitter must see to improving its security features as it has become an easy to access platform for hackers by now. Apart from this, the users should also use double authentication to prevent unauthenticated account access. Staying away from phishing and any other suspicious emails is a must for users to stay safe on this platform.
