Telegram CEO Durov makes statements on introducing more advert on the platform

Due to secure and privacy focused functionalities of Telegram the platform saw a spike in number of users. But even after that Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of Telegram, made clarifications about the speculations on introducing advertisements. He said there is no such feature being added as of now.

He further emphasized on how adverts do not hold a place in its list of agendas for private chats and group chats. Durov makes it clear that adverts are not an agenda for private chats and group chats but the print ads will continue to be a unique feature it engages with on its platform unlike other similar apps.

Users who rely on Telegram as a messaging app, not a social network, will never see ads. Private chats and group chats are and will always be ad free,” says Durov.

Last year towards the last quarter, Durov mentioned about not deriving monetary pleasures by turning the current free features into paid ones but further features will be added for business purposes which will be paid.

The advertisements that are indeed allowed on the one-to-many channels will be contextual and will not be based on any user data. These will be based on the topic of the channel, and not pick any user’s data for the ads that are served. Telegram is also looking to fix the advertising that’s already there in the larger channels and will offer channel owners a privacy-conscious alternative to third-party ad networks.
