Twitter’s account verification programme has been paused once more, with the company claiming that it wants to enhance the application and review process in order to grant users the coveted blue badge. After re-launching its public verification procedure last month, Twitter revealed last month that it had erroneously certified a “small number” of bogus accounts and has permanently terminated them.

The company announced in a Tweet on Friday, “We’ve temporarily hit pause on rolling out access to apply for Verification so we can make improvements to the application and review process.”

It also added, “For those who have been waiting, we know this may be disappointing. We want to get things right, and appreciate your patience.”

Twitter said last month that it had granted the verification requests of a small number of inauthentic (fake) accounts by mistake.

“We have now permanently suspended the accounts in question, and removed their verified badge, under our platform manipulation and spam policy,” it had said in a statement.

Beginning with six categories, and reviewing public applications globally, Twitter relaunched its new verification application process in May. through this users can get the chance to earn the Blue Badges on the platform.

After receiving an avalanche of applications, Twitter halted its blue badge verification programme within a week of its introduction, stating that it is now processing the verification requests that have been received.

Twitter has already stopped verification in 2017, only to reintroduce it this year.

Government; corporations, brands, and organizations; news organizations and journalists; entertainment; sports and gaming; and activists, organizers, and other prominent persons — the company restarted the verification programme with six categories.

More categories will be introduced later on this year like for academics, religious leaders, and scientists.
