The FBI alerted businesses involved in time-sensitive financial events to stay protected against ransomware gangs. As per the FBI, ransomware gangs can collect some important data of such organizations to blackmail them for ransom.
The FBI’s fear is justified as ransomware groups have been seen using financial data stolen from businesses to demand ransom on multiple occasions. In the past cybercriminals mostly exposed or sold sensitive data stolen from the victims to earn money although with the passing time ransomware groups adopted multiple innovative tactics to obtain money from victims.
If some experts are to be believed then businesses can keep themselves protected from ransomware attacks by following adequate security measures including frequent data backups and setting up a powerful patch management mechanism.
