Reportedly, Russian hackers are having an edge over other hackers as they have been highly successful in breaching the firewalls of the government organizations of the U.S. and the other parts of the world, making governmental entities their primary focus.
Microsoft’s research reveals that 50% of the hacking by Moscow-linked target groups accounted for governmental entities. Apart from that, Russian hackers have also witnessed an increase in the success rate of their breaches from 21% to 32%.
The information came into light when Biden wanted to increase the cybersecurity for US government defenses against Russian attacks. But despite the US and its allies condemning Russian and Chinese behavior in cyberspace, those countries are “still comfortable leaning into nation-state attacks,” said Cristin Goodwin, associate general counsel and head of Microsoft’s Digital Security Unit. “And we’re seeing that increase.” (kten)
There was an incident back in 2020 when Russian hackers carried out a hacking operation and breached more than nine US federal agencies. It has been doubted that it is the same hacking group that is carrying out the hacking recently.
Apart from Russia, North Korea, Iran, and China are also very active countries when it comes to hacking U.S. entities.
According to the reports of Knet, Microsoft also reported Thursday that 58% of government-linked hacking attempts originated in Russia, followed by 23% from North Korea, 11% from Iran, and 8% from China.
All these hacking groups are becoming a huge pain for the U.S. government and the Biden government is trying very hard to tackle this situation without having any adverse impacts on the relations among the countries.
