One of the leading medical technology companies of the United States, Olympus was forced to take down its IT systems earlier this week as it was hit by a cyberattack. The most affected regions were the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.
According to the reports of Bleeping Computer, “Upon detection of suspicious activity, we immediately mobilized a specialized response team including forensics experts, and we are currently working with the highest priority to resolve this issue,” Olympus says in a statement published today, two days after the attack.
Olympus at once started the investigation of the cyberattack and also suspended and stopped the working of affected systems. To be extra careful, it also intimated the relevant external partners. The research states that the cyber attack only affected the Americans and not the other regions. However, Olympus didn’t disclose whether any of the customer’s data was affected during the breach. But the company is highly positive that none of the customer’s data was affected during the attack.
“We are working with appropriate third parties on this situation and will continue to take all necessary measures to serve our customers and business partners in a secure way,” Olympus added. “Protecting our customers and partners and maintaining their trust in us is our highest priority.” (Bleeping Computer)
This is the second incident that has been faced by Olympus in terms of cyber security. Olympus faced a similar kind of attack back in September which was a case of a ransomware attack that affected regions such as Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Even though Olympus didn’t disclose the names of the attackers, some ransom notes were definitely found on the affected systems.
