ReproSource, a fertility clinic owned by Quest Diagnostics suffered a data breach recently. Because of this breach, the data of 3,50,000 ReproSource patients got affected and was exposed to the dark web.
ReproSource said in a statement detailing the data breach in which the unauthorized party and attacking group have been successfully able to access and/or acquire the secured health information and personally identifiable information of the patients.
According to the reports of ZDNet, “On August 8, 2021, an unauthorized party accessed the ReproSource network. ReproSource discovered ransomware on the morning of August 10, and in less than an hour severed all network connection activity and contained the incident,” a company spokesperson explained.
After the data breach incident, ReproSource immediately launched a detailed investigation to find out the cause of the breach. ReproSource immediately intimated the law enforcement agency, contacted the leading cybersecurity experts who further confirmed the ransomware.
The letter tells the victims that their personal information has been leaked during the ransomware attack that includes names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, date of birth, and billing information.
According to sources, healthcare facilities are on the verge of getting more and more ransomware attacks because of the amount of data that they possess. And, ransomware attacks force the organization to pay the ransom to the attackers if their condition is not met, otherwise they have the capacity and power to leak sensitive information on the dark web.
