Mozilla is overhauling Firefox for Android, and now you can get an early peek into it. Mozilla has announced a new version of Firefox for Android, focusing on speed, privacy, and organization. Mozilla discussed the reinvented browser in a blog post yesterday and is now available to download from the Google Play Store so you can try it for yourself.

Firefox Preview borrows various features from Firefox Focus, which is a lean mobile browser designed for productivity and privacy.

  1. It is the best browser for a smoother online experience.
  2. Protects your privacy with the best VPN.
  3. Keeps your PC secure with the best antivirus.

While most browsers use the Blink engine, which is also used by Google Chrome, both Mozilla and Firefox use the GeckoView engine. According to Mozilla, switching to GeckoView offered more independence since it is no longer limited by Google’s preferences. “Building Firefox for Android on GeckoView also results in greater flexibility in terms of the types of privacy and security features we can offer our mobile users,” said Mozilla in a press release.

Firefox Preview also took some more features from Focus, including a minimalist and uncluttered design. But unlike focus, Firefox Preview offers a choice of light or dark interfaces, which users can choose manually or set to respect your Android settings.

One of the most significant differences, which is also noticeable, is the search/URL bar, which will now appear at the bottom of the screen and not at the top. A pull-up tab placed above the URL bar provides quick links for bookmarking or sharing the current page.

Another new feature is the Collections which allows you to save a set of related sites in a named group for quick access (a more organized form of bookmarks). The final polished version of the browser will be available to download later this year.
