If you are a PS4 gamer and a PlayStation Plus subscriber hoping to settle down with a quality football simulator next month, it seems you are out of luck.
In an unprecedented move, Sony plans to swap out its line-up of PS Plus games for July. Earlier as well, promises were made to the subscribers the access to Konami’s PES 2019 football game as part of the online subscription package this month, but it’s now being removed and replaced. Instead, the users will be getting the vastly different Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe edition from developers Quantic Dream.
“We are making a swap to the PS Plus games line-up for July,” reads an update to the previous PS Plus post. “This month, Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition would be added, which will also include Heavy Rain, to the July games line-up instead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
It’s a mysterious and rare move for Sony. There was a little backlash to PES 2019’s inclusion initiative, and its presence would have made for a fully sports-oriented PS Plus month. The second game, being indie car racing game Horizon Chase Zero, remains unchanged.
In addition to this, despite being on sale recently, Detroit: Become Human arguably offers better value to subscribers than PES 2019. It was released as an AAA exclusive initially, and it is a Digital Deluxe edition that also involves its spiritual predecessor.
It is also worth noting that until recently, Quantic Dream’s games had been the exclusives on PlayStation. Last month, Heavy Rain was observed hitting PC heavily, and Detroit: Become Human will be joining it in “the fall”. A third game present in the series, Beyond: Two Souls, will also hit PC platforms on July 22. It is possible that Sony wanted to provide them one last hurrah on its platform before they head off to pastures new.
