Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari along with Twitter Head Amrita Tripathi were booked last night under Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 74 of IT (Amendment) Act 2008, by Bulandshahr Police Station for showing a distorted map on its website. The FIR was filed in Khurja police station in Bulandshahr district after a Bajrang Dal join convener filed a complaint.

On Monday, at 2227 hours, the FIR was filed at the Khurja police station.

The complaint was filed at Khurja police station after seeing the incorrect map of the nation about 1500 hours on Monday by a  Bajrang Dal joint convener and lawyer by profession, Praveen Bharti of Murli Nagar neighborhood.

“The world map does not show Ladakh, Jammu, and Kashmir as parts of India. This is not a coincidence. This act has hurt the sentiments of Indians, including me.” the complaint filed by Bajrang Dal stated.

The Bajrang Dal leader in his complaint asks for the filing of NSA charges against Twitter and another individual for injuring the countrymen’s feelings. He also referred to it as an “anti-national” act.

Meanwhile, after receiving the complaint and filing an FIR, the police stated they are conducting an investigation and looking into the matter.

The contentious map depicting Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as being beyond India’s boundaries was deleted from Twitter.
