The use of the internet is becoming increasingly important in meeting our daily needs. Nowadays, everyone’s work, whether a working professional, a school, a college student, or even a homemaker, is reliant on the internet. However, there are still certain places where individuals are unable to use the internet due to the lack of internet connectivity in their area, although Elon Musk’s satellite network Starlink’s plans to provide broadband internet access to the entire world by August 2021.
Elon Musk revealed his plans regarding this project in a recently held Mobile World Congress event through video conferencing. The company has now launched over 1,500 satellites, and according to SpaceX, they have invested a significant amount of money to accomplish this mission. According to sources, the company will need to spend $20 billion to $30 billion to expand this project in the future. The company currently has 69,420 active users, but it expects to reach over 500,000 users in the next 12 months. By launching the satellites Elon Musk hopes to achieve the goal of providing broadband connectivity to over 5% of the world’s population where traditional fiber and wireless networks are impossible to reach.
To make this ambition a reality, SpaceX has also reached an agreement with two big telecom operators. Although the company has not revealed the names of the operators, it is believed that they are from two major countries. “If we achieve our goal without becoming bankrupt then that’ll be a victory for us,” Elon Musk stated in a recent video conference.
Furthermore, by next year, the company also plans to launch a new version of Starlink satellites that will aid in the supply of broadband connectivity to polar region as well. What do you think about this project do you want to use Starlink’s service in your country? let me know in the comment box.
