On Thursday, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released a severe directive to all telecommunication companies. Where it is stated that telecom firms must guarantee that their channels, distributors, and retailers will not provide special tariffs to consumers, because of which consumers are able to port their phone numbers to other networks.

Let me explain that TRAI released such a rule after receiving numerous complaints from telecom operators claiming that consumers would earn optimum benefits by porting their mobile numbers. Benefits are being increased. Customers are fast switching from one network to another as a result of this. Following such concerns, the TRAI issued orders to implement the new standards.

It’s significant to note that MNP is a service that allows users to switch to another network in the event of a network outage or call drop. However, telecom operators see this as a chance, and as a result of the added perks, they are attracting users from other networks.

In its instruction, TRAI instructed all Telecom Operators to guarantee that rates are only provided to the regulator “with immediate impact” via their channel associates, distributors, retailers, or third-party applications.

The telecom service providers would be responsible for complying with the standards and provisions, according to TRAI, if the operator’s name or brand is utilized for selling and marketing the product.
