Google is the biggest search engine in the world having 92% share of the whole search industry. As a leader google takes the steps and does changes that helps the users but not all the time, Especially for the brands spending millions of dollars on branding and watching their competitors ranking higher and getting more visibility than them.
A recent tweet made by Jason fred, who is the founder of basecamp regarding Google Ads has gone viral in the digital marketing community.
In the tweet he shares the pain of not getting enough clicks and watching their competitors rank higher when someone Google for this his own brand keyword “Basecamp”.
His intention towards this tweet is to protect his company brand value and get more customers who are aware about the brand.
When any one from the united states searches for keyword “Basecamp”, They get to see the 4 of basecamp competitor ads first on the top 4 positions and then the official website of basecamp which is completely a manipulation and degradation of a brand visibility.
After the tweet made by jason, a huge group of digital marketers joined the conversation and admitted this as an issue and told that they were looking for a solution.
Having this kind of on screen manipulation hurt brands where businesses spend years of time and millions of dollars and end up giving the top positions to competitors.
Jason also mentioned that the company basecamp is not interested in running ads on their own branded keyword but big search giant Google is forcing then to get visibility on their own keyword.
To prove the point, Jason came up with this ad to educate his brand audience.
The biggest issue digital marketers and brand advertising are facing is “They don’t get the first position” and Google legally allows them to advertise on their brand name as keywords mentioned by the Google team in reply.
Community members also asked Google if they are following this policy because it makes a lot of money to Google but Google didn’t respond.
Digital Marketers in the community said, Loopholes like these discourages people from creating a better brand, lowers the value of existing brand and encourages people to steal audience of other businesses.
