Google Calendar under attack, Hackers offer iPhone XS and more to manipulate users
Google calendar, One of the most used feature of google’s ecosystem has been attacked by hackers offering iPhone XS and Amazon Vouchers to download viruses.
The bug has been reported by Macbook Pro user & web developer Rana Jayant from Hyderabad, India. He saw the bug around 9:30AM IST when he opened his mac to start his day and reported thedigitalhacker.
The attack is done from random emails in bulk with in different ways and multiple offers (1) Adding people for meeting alarm offering Amazon $1000 Gift Card (2)Sending people an invitation for iPhoneXs which looked something like this.
When clicked on first “Amazon $1000 Gift” event, It opens a window with the offer with following details.
Start writing or type / to choose a block
The invitation has a hidden link, when clicked the users are redirected to a page which takes users to a fake apple website which more or less looks like apple official website.
The reporter also said that the URL redirected several times before it took to the apple fake website.
When checked in Apple Calendar which syncs with Google Calendar, it shows a confirmed invitation for Thursday 22 August and leave the victim disturbed with this unknown incident.
The bug was directly associated with Google Calendar account which leave billions of users vulnerable.
On a report search, We found 8017 has clicked on offer URL and a great percentage of them are from united states and india.
Google calendar users are suggested to ignore such invitations and offers and be updated with the latest hacking news.
