Reportedly, the researchers of Ukraine have identified five members from the infamous threat group, Gamaredon, which is known for its phishing and ransomware attacks. The group has been targeting the country since 2014 now. Also, it has also been reported that the identified members work for a Russian federal agency.
The hacking group has been targeting Ukraine for many years now and has been compromising the servers of public authorities over the years. It has carried out more than 5000 cyberattacks on public institutions and over 1500 attacks on government computer systems.
Their most attacks are aimed at security, defense, and law enforcement agencies to get intelligence information.
According to Cyware, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has successfully identified five members from the group who has been working on a special project of the Russian Federal Security Service. Their main aim is to make multiple industries of Ukraine vulnerable.
To be noted, the five men have not been detained yet, however, officials are in hope that the making their names public could, if nothing, can help curb their operations.
Cyware
There are no reports as such on how the Ukrainian government is going to initiate further this lead. Their focus should be to find out the rest of the members of the group to find out the main purpose behind these attacks.
