Ultimate Alliance 3 is the latest installment in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series.
The Nintendo Switch exclusive pits heroes and villains together as they attempt to curb Thanos and The Black Order from finding the Infinity Stones and unleashing chaos upon the world.
The game can be played online as well as offline with up to 4 players. Ultimate Alliance 3 gets launched today, i.e. July 19. Speaking of DLC, it is already known that the first wave of DLC fighters will be from Marvel Knights and include Blade, Moon Knight, Punisher, and Morbius. For the latter two, it’s their playable debut in the Ultimate Alliance series.
And finally, there is also a confirmation on the rumors about Loki being playable in the base game, which was revealed in just a matter of hours.
It has been 10 years since the last Marvel Ultimate Alliance (and even longer since its predecessor, X-Men Legends), so a refresher was definitely in order. Essentially, the franchise is a Diablo-style action role-playing game, only instead of battling with demonic hordes, you are fighting with the minions of Ultron and Doc Ock. The twist is that it’s built for team-play; so, one can form a squad of four heroes and can play either solo or cooperatively. And the player will continually unlock new heroes, so much of the strategy comes from how one builds his team. That makes it a perfect game for the Nintendo Switch, and it’s notably an exclusive to Nintendo’s console while the prior two were released on almost every platform imaginable.
The Black Order doesn’t change the formula. It still plays out from a mostly isometric perspective and gives you a huge roster of Marvel stars to choose from. It starts with the Guardians of the Galaxy, but it’s not long before the X-Men, Avengers, and various spider-people join your team.
